Last week the NFL released the official invite list<\/a> for this year’s Combine. We did some research, crunched the numbers, and found quite a few interesting trends and data points.\u00a0Here’s a link to some or our prior findings with the Combine<\/a>.<\/h4>\n

2019 Official Invite List – Total players 338<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Combine Position stats Q&A:<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

How many ran track or threw shot\/discus in high school?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Approx 60% – 203\/338<\/p>\n

How many offensive linemen threw shot put \/ discus in high school?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Approx 52%<\/p>\n

What position group had the highest track participation?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Running back 85%, 24 of 28 invites ran track in high school.<\/p>\n

What position group had the highest mix of basketball and track high school athletes?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wide receiver 85%, 30 ran track and 29 played basketball.<\/p>\n

What position group had the highest basketball participation?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tight end 95%<\/p>\n

And the defensive line? What did they do in high school?<\/strong><\/p>\n

21\/33 D-line invites threw shot put or discus. Overall 85% 28\/33 did another sport in high school.<\/p>\n

What about the 18 invited quarterbacks? Did most of them specialize?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nope. At least 13 of them played basketball, baseball, ran track or some combination.<\/p>\n

And the linebackers?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roughly 80% played another sport, with track and field being most popular at 48%.<\/p>\n

Last but not least the corners and safeties…did a lot of them do track?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes. 83% of cornerbacks ran high school track…while 72% of safeties ran track.<\/p>\n
